Re: SB 1463 (Moorlach) – Request to Sign
Dear Governor Brown,
I would like to urge you to sign SB 1463, which will develop future heightened utility fire mitigation standards for at-risk communities throughout the state. Your leadership in this effort to provide greater public safety in our communities is commendable and extremely important to us.
Recently, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) instituted a process to develop fire maps that do not take into account all of the appropriate factors to ensure that a high level of safety is maintained in our communities. SB 1463 would resolve these concerns by requiring the PUC to prioritize areas in which communities are at risk from the consequences of fire from overhead utility facilities. In addition, this bill will require the PUC to incorporate the concerns of local governments and fire departments into their analysis.
I believe that one of the paramount responsibilities of government is to provide for public safety. For these reasons, we are pleased to support SB 1463 to ensure that our communities continue to provide the public safety that our residents deserve.
Thank you for your consideration.
